Two-dimensional barcode (2DCode), or two-dimensional barcode (2Dcode) technology, is a derived barcode technology born on the basis of one-dimensional barcode technology. The difference is that the graphic units of two-dimensional barcode are modules or short bars, and are arranged in matrix form within symbols. Therefore, two-dimensional code symbols carry information in both vertical and horizontal directions, hence the name two-dimensional barcode. In China, as early as in the early 1990s, China article coding center (hereinafter referred to as the "coding center") took the lead in the introduction of two-dimensional code technology, several commonly used two-dimensional code technical specifications have been translated and tracked. In the late 90's, the coding center combined with our country has successively transformed PDF417, Japan's QR code system into national standard, promoted established a series of pilot two-dimensional code technology application, solved our country two-dimensional code technology development has no standard to follow the problems, but also promotes and drives the emergence of two-dimensional code technology industry and the starting of the application of two-dimensional code technology. The first batch of enterprises in China, such as New Continent and Nankaigold, were established and developed to conduct R&D and application promotion of two-dimensional code technology.

At the beginning of this century, in order to meet the application field of our country put forward PDF417, QR and other foreign code systems do not support Chinese characters and Chinese characters information expression efficiency low, the coding center led our country enterprise to work together to develop the "hanxincode" code system. Hanxin Code is the first two-dimensional code with national standards and independent intellectual property rights in China. It has reached the international leading level in Chinese character information representation, and has reached the international advanced level in the encoding efficiency, symbol information density and capacity, reading speed, anti-defilement ability and other aspects of digital and character, binary data and other information. In 2007, the "Hanxin code" national standard (GB/T21049) was officially released. In 2011, Hanxin code became the authoritative international AIMGlobal industry standard. In 2015, Hanxin code officially became the international ISO standard project.
